The world is in chaos right now. I keep hearing the words “inflection point.” I know that they mean a critical point, but I admit I didn’t know the mathematical definition. (I never got to calculus.) In math terms, the inflection point is the point at which a curve turns from concave to convex. It is the spot when things change, move in a different direction, change course.
Today was my inflection point when it comes to believing in the Blessed Virgin Mary. She may not have appeared to me as she did at Lourdes, at Fatima, and at Tepeyac Hill in Mexico City. But I know with confidence that she is with me from today on.
This morning the world was weighing on me: We’re in the 6th month of a global pandemic, depending on when you start counting; the economy is in a tailspin and things aren’t looking good for the last quarter of the year; my 90-year-old mother is struggling with dementia; we can’t go to church and feel safe, due to the coronavirus; and it seems everyone is angry, really angry, and they aren’t afraid to protest, call others names and even physically hurt each other to make their voices heard.
So this morning, as I sat in front of my computer trying to make the best of the new “work-from-home” model, I put my head in my hands and just sat for a moment, taking in all the world’s problems. I said out loud, “Mary, Mother of God, please let me feel your presence. Let me know you are here. Help me trust in you that there is more than this life.” I lifted my head and tried to focus on my work.
About an hour later I heard the mailman drop our mail for the day in our big white mailbox at the curb. I was ready for a break so I stood up, stretched my legs and walked outside to see what was in today’s mail.
There was the usual junk mail, political flyers and monthly bills. But there was also a larger, heavier white envelope. I opened it first and stopped in my tracks.
Inside was a book about Mary. It was titled “Mary at the Crossroads of History,” written by Rev. Francis J. Hoffman, J.C.D.. I was stunned. Mary was making me feel her presence. She was letting me see that she was here. I had totally forgotten that I had ordered this book about three months prior. It was a free offer by Relevant Radio and I, as you know, am hungry for more about Mary. But instead of arriving on any other day it arrived today; after my most sincere prayer request asking Mary to show me she is near.
Today was my inflection point. I will stop asking Mary if she is really out there and start sharing the glorious news that she, in fact, is.
I am hoping to bring more knowledge about the Virgin Mary to the world, especially during these times when we need her most.
